About Us
Kids In Balance was started with the idea that children and families should have access to therapy and learning services within the community. We are a small group of therapists and teachers that want to promote learning and development through the use of animals and outdoor activities.
We are always looking for volunteers to help with making this mission possible. We need side walkers and horse handlers for our Equine Assisted Activities. We take high school students that need community service hours. Please contact us.
Meet the Team
Our team is unique, the majority of our team members are animals!
Speech Language Pathologist and Founder
Jennifer Leigh, M.S., CCC-SLP
Hi I am Jen!
I grew up on a small family farm and have loved goats and horses since I was old enough to walk. I can still remember the first horse that I ever rode, Rosie, and I'm pretty sure that is when I was bit by the bug. I realized how comforting riding was for me as a child, so when I had my own children that needed some support, I dove into learning about Adaptive Riding and Hippotherapy. I began getting lessons for my own children and volunteering at an Adaptive Riding Center. In 2013, after almost 15 years of being a speech language pathologist, I went to my first training through the American Hippotherapy Association. Since then, I have completed training as a Life Coach as well as my certification to offer Horse Powered Reading and Adaptive Riding.

Team Leader
Scout
Scout is an appaloosa horse that loves to work. He loves working with children and takes his job very seriously. He is our team leader because he is great at keeping everyone in line and is a go-getter. He loves to snack on mom's granola bars. When he isn't working or babysitting he loves to go on long walks in the woods (trail rides), camping, and obstacle courses.
Class Clown
Tucker
Tucker is a miniature paint horse. He is a silly boy who loves to make people laugh. His favorite thing is to get attention, give kisses and eat. His favorite treat is apple slices. In his spare time he enjoys cuddling, eating, and escaping from the stall or round pen to go open the shed door and sneak some goodies.
The Undercover Boss
Mr. Peaches
Mr. Peaches (Alias: Mr. P or Peaches) might be small but he is mighty. So don't let his size fool you, no one messes with Mr. P. We call him the undercover boss because while it may seem like others run the show, Mr. Peaches is the one that is really in control. He is the fastest horse in the barn and is always the first one in for dinner. When he isn't delegating duties he enjoys standing under the fan or napping under the trees.
America's Next Top Model
Marley
Marley is a thoroughbred who is laidback and loves to look good. His favorite activities include standing still to pose, grazing and getting a massage. He loves alfalfa treats and is as sweet as them too. He enjoys the pampered life and taking it nice and easy.
The Baby
Burrito
Sweet burrito the donkey is a big baby who loves attention. He loves to play by chasing Tucker around the field, jumping on Marley and starting shenanigans. He also loves sticking his velvety soft nose into everything. His favorite snack is peppermints so his breath is super fresh for when he gives you snuggles and kisses.
The Management
The Chickens
The chickens, aka the girls: Lana, Tina, Maya, Lila, and Lafonda, are super friendly and curious. They love to snack on meal worms and eating cracked corn from your hand. The spend their time hanging out in the barn, eating the goats' leftovers, taking dust baths, and giving mom the shake down for some cracked corn.
The pretty piggy princess
Pignelope
Pignelope, aka Nelly Belly, is a pot-bellied pig. She is smart and determined, especially when it comes to food. Her favorite snacks are horse treats and peanuts. In her spare time she enjoys dumping over the water buckets, lounging in the pool, and rooting up acorns.
The Gang
The Goats
The herd of goats include 13 Nubian goats Nigerian dwarf goats: Ying Yang, Marti Gras, Gaspar, Soraka, Amora, Cricket, Clover, Juliet, Romeo, Lucy, Honey, Abby, and What's Her Name.
